Evil Fights For Survival in “Dr. Alpha: Dead Man’s Lullaby” (Crowdfunding Spotlight)

Independent comic book creator and YouTube personality A. S. Rivera (aka Literature Devil) recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for Dr. Alpha: Dead Man’s Lullaby Vol 1, a 70+ page graphic novel intended for mature readers.

Written by Rivera and featuring illustrations by Preston Asevedo (aka The “Good” Preston) and colors by Oliver Lee Arce, Dead Man’s Lullaby serves as a prequel to Dr. Alpha: Miracle Child, which was successfully crowdfunded in 2019.

Here’s the official pitch taken from the Dr. Alpha: Dead Man’s Lullaby Indiegogo campaign page:

PLOT: Around 20 years before the events of Miracle Child, while on vacation, Dr. Alpha awoke one morning to find that he’d been injected with a deadly virus. A lethal biological weapon invented by fellow mad scientist: Dr. Mindel Kloner.

Now Alpha has to fight for every minute of life as he goes on a rampage through Empire City in a mad dash to find out why Dr. Alpha’s former friend betrayed him so suddenly. Alpha will tear through evil minions, corrupt superheroes, and even his former agency to get an answer to this burning question.

But in the world of supervillains, nothing is ever so simple as he quickly learns that Dr. Kloner’s betrayal and Dr. Alpha’s infection were only footnotes in a much larger scheme that could have very deadly consequences.

About the Book: Dr. Alpha: Miracle Child introduced us to the character of the mysterious Dr. Alpha. The events of Dead Man’s Lullaby will introduce us to the world of Dr. Alpha. We’ll see Empire City, it’s heroes, and the various powerful organizations vying for power.

We’ll get answers and hints to questions posed in Dr. Alpha: Miracle Child, explore the ideas of true heroism and the corrupting nature of power. And even catch a glimpse of Alpha’s past and why he turned to villainy in the first place.

Volume 1?: Dr. Alpha: Dead Man’s Lullaby is an extensive story, but don’t worry, this isn’t one that will drag on forever. Currently, the whole story is set to be finished in 2 volumes with around 140 pages total. The benefits being, faster output, full color from the start, and the freedom to create a more robust story.

Backers can get a digital version of Dead Man’s Lullaby for $20, while physical copies (along with a digital PDF) start at $25. If you have more cash to spend, you can also receive the following:

  • Signed copies of the book
