Over the weekend, independent comic book creator and Splatto Comics conducted a crowdfunding campaign for The Jawbreakers Contingency, the latest installment in the landmark superhero series.*

Why did I write “conducted” rather than “started” or “launched”? Because the campaign started – and ended – over the weekend, lasting only 48 hours. If you blinked and missed it, the campaign page is now an in-demand store, so you can still buy in for another couple of weeks.

Why the abbreviated timeline? Because Meyer is moving away from Texas (a zero income tax state) to one with high income taxes, and wanted all of the payouts to be finalized before the move. As it is, the project is already a success, having raised more than $50 thousand before the 48-hour crowdfunding period ended.

This parody of G.I.JOE was originally printed as a back-up story in the KNIFE-HAND: BLINDSPOT graphic novel. It was so popular with the backers that we created a new cover and will be printing it as a floppy comic book for the first time.

A Print-Set Of Mars Pin-up Poster

Stunning art by superstar artist Kenneth Rocafort depicts some Public Domain characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs (whose names are still trademarked so I can’t use them here). Let’s just say that the man is from Virginia and the woman is from Mars.

Backers can get two copies (yes, two) of The Jawbreakers Contingency for $30. If you have more cash to spend, you can pick up the Closer to Heaven and Garrison books as well as the John “Doe” of Mars pin-up as add-on purchases. You can also grab Splatto’s Rock ‘N Roll Ninja book if you missed that one… a couple of years ago.

It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $10 for those in the United States.
