Yakuza may come to Xbox One if there is enough fan demand; Switch port unlikely, series producer says

The once PlayStation-exclusive Yakuza series will soon be expanding its audience when Yakuza Zero comes to PC later in August. But will Xbox One owners ever get a chance to enjoy Yakuza titles on their platform? Series producer Daisuke Sato says, “Maybe.”

In a recent interview with Gameblog, Sato indicated that his team at SEGA would consider porting the Yakuza series to Xbox One if there’s enough demand for it. “Regarding the Xbox One, we can possibly consider it, knowing Xbox One users may be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. This could potentially be an option.”

The outlook isn’t quite so bright for gamers hoping to play Yakuza on Nintendo Switch, though. Sato considers the Wii U ports of Yakuza 1 & 2 HD to be a “major failure,” and stated that despite being willing to support the broadest possible availability of the Yakuza series, he’s convinced that Nintendo’s consoles are not a proper fit for them.

“As far as the Nintendo Switch is concerned, I’m convinced that this is not the ideal platform on which to develop Yakuza games,” Sato said.

Sato similarly called for “fan demand” just weeks prior to announcing that all main line Yakuza titles would be coming to PS4 (sorry Dead Souls fans). Is he yet again setting the stage for a similar announcement for Xbox One?
