Previews World has given us a nice sneak peek at the upcoming suspense/horror series Midnight Mystery by writer/artist Bernie Gonzalez. Described as a mix of The X-Files, Supernatural, and film noir films, Midnight Mystery follows the adventures of detective Ezekiel King who has been hired to find the missing son of a deceased horror host.

In the trailer below, the visual influence of Batman the Animated Series is pretty obvious. Gonzalez has mentioned that the art of the late Darwyn Cooke has also been one of his inspirations.

As part of Alterna Comics’ newsprint line, each issue of Midnight Mystery will have a menial $1.50 cover price, making the entire 4-issue mini-series just $6.

Issue 1 of Midnight Mystery is scheduled for release on 31 October.
