On Sunday, Riot Press Productions founder and independent comic book creator Patrick Thomas Parnell launched a crowdfunding campaign for Ultra Star: Operation Super N.O.V.A. 5, and the project was fully funded in less than twenty minutes.*

Written and illustrated by Parnell and featuring cover art by Kenneth Rocafort (GROKEN), Ultra Star is a new superhero tale set in the Johnny Phantasm universe.

Here’s the official plot synopsis taken from the Ultra Star Indiegogo campaign page:

Super N.O.V.A. 5, the world’s most powerful super heroes, saved the day time and time again. Gifted as they were, they couldn’t see this coming. Ultra Star, the world’s most powerful being and their leader, has gone missing.

Ultra Star was the cornerstone of the peoples’ morale and sense of security for so many around the world. Even to this league of super heroes, known as Super N.O.V.A. 5, Ultra Star shined as a beacon of hope and positivity.

It’s up to a reporter who specializes in discovering heroes’ secret identities to find out where Ultra Star has gone to.

And in the meantime, the remaining heroes struggle to find their footing.

Backers can get a copy of Ultra Star (with a sticker) for $25. If you have extra cash to spend, you can also pick up a variant cover, a trading card set, post cards, two additional ashcan books, and original artwork. It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $10 for those in the United States.

Now that the Ultra Star project is well beyond fully funded, it has already started to unlock a host of stretch goals, including more cards, a poster, poker chip, and additional pages.
