Richard C. Meyer Teams Up with Narwhal for New Thriller “499”

On Friday, independent comic book creator and Splatto Comics founder Richard C. Meyer launched a crowdfunding campaign for 499, a 72-page graphic novel written and illustrated by Foreign Agent creator Narwal (aka Per Berg). Set in an alternate history, 499 blends elements of Cold War-inspired thrillers with the slasher films of the 1980s.

Here’s the official plot synopsis taken from the 499 Indiegogo campaign page:

499 Book One is a 72-page color graphic novel that takes place in an alternate history where the US fought a ground war with Russia in Europe during the 1980s and 1990s. After “victory” was achieved, millions of traumatized veterans returned home and re-made the United States in their image. Military service is mandatory upon high school graduation. Marriage & Procreation are highly encouraged by the state to make up for the massive amount of deaths in the war with Russia. Are the three vicious veterans who run the town being targeted for the things they did during the war…or how they act during “peace”?

Backers can get a copy of 499 for $25. For those with more cash to spend, you can also pick up several additional books, including Splatto Comics’ Impossible Stars and Per Berg’s P.O.D. and Foreign Agent.
