Intellivision debuts new “Breakout” and “Moon Patrol” revivals for their Amico console

Intellivision has made several announcements over the last few days regarding their upcoming console, the Amico. More specifically, they have debuted new Breakout and Moon Patrol titles, both of which will be available at launch.

Featuring trippy visuals and dynamic music which is driven by the gameplay, this new take on Breakout looks to be inspired at least partly by other retro revivals including Tempest 2000 and PacMan Championship Edition. Here’s the Breakout announcement straight from Intellivision, followed by a video demo of the game:

Intellivision is proud to show off its exclusive version of Atari’s Breakout, only available on the Intellivision Amico console launching 10.10 2020. Although the game will start off in original “vertical mode”, it won’t take long to utilize the full 16:9 aspect ratio and turn things sideways! Part “block buster” and part 2D side scrolling shooter, you’ll only have a limited amount of time to get to the goal and BREAKOUT! Will the player in the trailer make it to the end on time? They have 4 minutes to complete the task! Players can utilize the vertical touchscreen to control the paddle and (as seen in the trailer) can use motion controls (once a ball is hit) to angle, aim, spin and curve in the direction that you’d like the ball to go! And don’t forget, we’ll also be adding multi-player couch co-op and versus modes as well!

In addition to Breakout, Intellivision has released a free Amico augmented reality app through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Once you point your camera at the Amico logo, a logo appears onscreen and goes through an elaborate animation. Once the animation ends, however, you can play through a short demo of one of an Amico exclusive launch titles: Moon Patrol: The Milky Way Chronicles (Am I the only one who thinks that sounds like a boob & butt fetish porno title?). The original Moon Patrol is s classic 80s arcade game which is part shoot-em-up, part endless runner (before the latter was even a recognized genre). Intellivision notes that the demo represents only a slice of a very unfinished game and that many aspects of the mobile demo likely will change before the final release

Both Breakout and Moon Patrol: the Milky Way Chronicles are expected to arrive with the Intellivision Amico launch on 10 October 2020. Are you excited about these two retro revivals? Are there others you’d like to see make their way to the Amico? Let us know in the comments!
